The purposes of this organization shall be:
(a) To promote the principles of good citizenship and good government in the youth of Pelham,New Hampshire;
(b) To encourage Pelham’s youth to take an active interest in the civic,cultural,social,and moral welfare of the community;
(c) To provide an open forum for the youth concerning matters of public interest;
(d) To encourage service-minded young people to serve their community without personal financial reward;and
(e) To open a direct line of communication between the youth of Pelham and the Board of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen is looking for members to join the Pelham Youth Council. The council membership will be as follows:
A designated representative of the PYC will attend official public BOS meetings and communicate between the PYC and the BOS.
A designated representative of the BOS will attend official meetings of the PYC and communicate between the BOS and the PYC. This BOS Representative will be responsible for selecting PYC members along with the Town Administrator, providing opportunities for the PYC to interact with leaders and members of the community, listening to PYC concerns and conveying them to the BOS, and the like.
The PYC shall be comprised of 7 students:
The Student Body President of Pelham High School will have an automatic seat.
1 member will be selected from each grade of Pelham High School.
1 member will be selected from Pelham Memorial School.
1 member will be selected at large from students that are either home schooled or attend a specialty school. If no such student applies or is suitable,then 1 additional Pelham Memorial School student will be selected to complete the membership.
Membership is based upon:
Academic standing. Members must maintain at least athletic eligibility to join and remain on the PYC.
Involvement in the community.
Teacher,coach,employer,and/or community leader recommendations.
Pelham High School Student Body President receives an automatic seat.
Remaining members are selected by the BOS Representative and the Town Administrator by application process.
