Roundabout Construction Project Update to BOS – April 1, 2014

Revised 4-1-2014

The following schedule is weather dependent:

·         Drainage pipes crossing Nashua and Windham Roads are complete with the Main Street crossing scheduled for Wednesday, 4/2.

·         Road base “boxing” along Marsh near Police Dept driveway (back entrance to Town Hall) is estimated to be complete by Wednesday, April 8th.

·         Acorn work to begin during 2nd week of April (assuming current flooding has subsided)

o   Connection to Woodbury to be opened

o   Pavement to be removed between Woodbury cut over and intersection of Old Bridge and Acorn

o   2nd detention pond to be installed in that area per plan

o   Sections of this area will be gravel for a short period of time

·         Once Acorn is open with 2-way traffic, vehicles will be diverted through the existing roundabout and vehicles travelling along Marsh towards the new roundabout location will be directed along a widened portion of Marsh in front of the old fire station lot. Portions of this detour will be gravel.

·         The new roundabout will be built in the same way as the existing one with traffic being diverted around one side, then the other until it is fully constructed.

·         The construction will last throughout the Spring and Summer with constantly changing detours and traffic patterns. Divers must anticipate delays and will need to closely follow signs and flaggers.

·         Continental hopes to be finished with major construction by late July. The traffic circulation utilizing both roundabouts is expected to be fully functional by this date. There may be additional minor work items remaining, i.e. final wearing course paving, sidewalk installation, curbing, final signage and landscaping, but these items are expected to be completed by the Fall timeframe at the outside.

·         Any club or organization planning to hold a road race, parade or other event in or passing though the Town Center construction area is encouraged to coordinate with Pelham Police Department earlier than usual so alternate routes and or detours can be accommodated.  Continental is already aware of the September Old Home Day event/parade but anticipate no issues since construction is likely to be concluded by then.
