ANNOUNCEMENT

New Police Chief

<= span style=3D'mso-ansi-font-size:10.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt'>The Pelham Bo= ard of Selectmen is pleased to announce the selection of Captain Joseph A. Roark as Pelham’s next Chief replacing Chief Evan Haglund who is retiring on <= st1:date Month=3D"5" Day=3D"1" Year=3D"2007" w:st=3D"on">1 May 2007. Chie= f Roark will assume administrative duties as Chief effective on 20 April 2007, which is Chief Haglund&= #8217;s last day of work. On 1 May 2007 the town will host a light reception for Ch= ief Roark in the Pelham Police Department lobby from 5:15 until 6:30 PM, after which a ceremonial swearing in will be conducted by the Honorable Judge Mic= hael Jones at 6:30 PM. Members of the general public and the press are invited to attend.

Chief Roark’s selection is a result of an open job posting wh= ich yielded ten (10) applicants. An initial selection committee consisting of all 5 Selectmen and the Town Administrator was tasked with screening all applications against the posted job descripti= on and performing a preliminary evaluation of the applicants. A standardized rating system was employed to rank the applicants, from a through d with a representing 4 points and d 1 point. Each reviewer was requested to rank all applicants by their evaluati= on criteria and select their top three candidates. This initial = review identified 3 highly qualified individuals. A final review committee consisting of the Board of Selectmen, the Town Administrator, the Fire Chief and the Planning Director was then convened on last Saturday mor= ning to interview two local candidates. One out of state candidate had previously been eliminated via telephone screening call.

Based upon the findings of that committee at the completion of the individual interviews, it was unanimously determined that Captain Joseph A. Roark was the best choice to lead the Pelham Police Department in the coming years.

The S= electmen congratulated Chief Roark.

Mr. Haverty took a moment= to extend a heartfelt thank you the Town’s emergency personnel for their quick response to a family emergency during Easter. If it weren’t for their dili= gence the outcome may have been tragic. &nb= sp;
