Motor Vehicle Registrations

***Please note that if your registration is lost in the mail after it has been processed, legally it is the residents responsibility to purchase a duplicate registration for $18 and stickers for $4 for a total charge of $22.00.

New Residents relocating from out-of-state:

Note:  NH License Deadline

If you have just moved to New Hampshire, you have 60 days to apply for a state Driver's License (RSA 263:35). If you do not apply for a New Hampshire Driver's License within 60 days, you will not be allowed to renew your vehicle registration or register any other vehicles.

  • Current Drivers license      
  • Proof of Residency is required:
  • If you own your own home: A copy of HUD statement, deed or utility bill in your name for that property.
  • If you rent:  A Notarized Lease agreement, or
  • A current utility bill in your name for that property dated within the last 60 days. Example: ( Electric or Propane Gas), or
  • A notarized statement from the property owner stating that you are living at that address.

Instructions on registering your vehicle in NH

  • If your vehicle year is 2000 nor newer: you will need your out-of-state Title (a copy is not acceptable)
  • If your vehicle year is 1999 or older: you will need your out-of-state registration, and a vin verification form.
  • If you have an out of state lienholder:  you will need to bring in your current out of state registration for the vehicle along with the lienholder’s name and address, the town clerk’s office will prepare a NH  title application and a registration, and you will pay both the Title Application fee and the registration fee and you will receive permanent plates. Upon receipt of this paperwork and fee, the title bureau will make a request for your title from the lienholder.  You should also reach out to your lienholder to make them aware that request for the title will be coming to them.
  • The owner/owners of the vehicles must come into the Town Clerk’s office personally to complete the paperwork, as the owner/owners needs to sign the title application and registration.

NH Residents Relocating to Pelham
Note: The state allows 10 days to change your address on your drivers license and vehicle registrations once you move into town.

Proof of Residency is required for any person registering a vehicle in Pelham for the first time, even if that person has lived here previously.

  • If you own your own home: A copy of HUD statement, deed or utility bill in your name for that property.
  • If you rent:  A Notarized Lease agreement, or A current utility bill in your name for that property (Electric or Propane Gas), or A notarized statement from the property owner stating that you are living at that address.

Instructions on Changing your Address:

  • Drivers License:  We have change of address cards here for you to pick up and mail to Concord for your drivers license change.
  • Registrations:  If you want an updated registration with your current address on it you need to bring your current registration into the Town Clerks office and we will reprint your registration with your new address on it, and an $18.00 duplicate registration fee will be charged.
  • Renewals:  You will need to bring in your Expiring Registration from your previous town into the Town Clerks office.

Renewals

  • You need to bring in your previous registration (a copy of your registration is also  acceptable) or the renewal notice that was sent to you in the mail. 
  • Any vehicle with a GVW over 26000 lbs, you must come to the Town Clerk’s Office, and pay your town fees first, then you will be directed to complete the registration atA MV Substation.
  •  Cash , Checks and CC are accepted. Please be aware that there is an additional 2.79% fee assessed when you use your credit card or debit card.
  • If you are paying by check:The Check is written to:  THE TOWN OF PELHAM

New Vehicles

  • New or Used Vehicles bought from out of state dealers: If it is a new vehicle you will need the Certificate of Origin,  if it is a used vehicle and the Vehicle year is 2000 or newer , you will need the title. 
  • New or Used Vehicle bought from New Hampshire dealers:  You will need to bring in your blue copy of the Title Application to us.
  • Vehicle years 1999 and older : You will need a bill of sale, the previous owners New Hampshire Registration, or title assigned over to you, or a Verification of Vehicle Identification filled out (these can be obtained from our office).
  • Transfer Plates/Registrations: You will need to bring your current original registration from your vehicle that you are transferring from, along with the appropriate paperwork from the new vehicle.  Transfers cannot be completed without the original previous registration. The transfer must be going from the “same name to the same name” (The first name of the registration is the same name that should be on the new paperwork.  Only when a vehicle is leased can it be different. Please call the office @ 603-635-2040 for details, as it can be very confusing.  Please remember to keep the plates and registration of your vehicle after the sale or trade-in of it. If you have misplaced the registration, you can request a certified duplicate registration for a fee of  $18.00.
