Family Support Programs Information

Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention supports youth, families, educators, and community members who are committed to the prevention of alcohol and drug use in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention does this by building and strengthening relationships, fostering communication at every level, and connecting with youth, parents, educators, and community members about prevention issues in relevant and meaningful ways. We want to hear from you, get involved and email us your ideas.

Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention is a coalition founded on the theory that local communities can address substance abuse more effectively than broad state or federal initiatives.

Our Mission
Community members work together to develop and improve access to comprehensive substance abuse prevention strategies that support the continuum of care.

Our Vision
We envision a healthy region where individuals and families are connected and positively engaged in their communities.

Our Goals

  • Decrease the number of people diagnosed under the DSM-IV category for alcohol dependence and abuse;
  • Decrease alcohol consumption and binge drinking among young adults (18- to 34-year-olds); and
  • Decrease underage alcohol consumption among high school (12- to 17-year- olds) and “college age” (18- to 20-year-olds) students.

Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention uses a strategic prevention framework to prevent the onset, and reduce the progression of substance abuse, including childhood and underage drinking; reduce substance abuse-related problems in the community; and build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the community level. With our partners, we strive to ensure that our behaviors, attitudes, and policies are culturally competent, enabling us to work effectively in cross-cultural settings. Cultural competence extends beyond race, gender and ethnicity and includes age, socio-economic status, disability, and education. In addition, we strive to develop strategies that are sustainable, ensuring maximum impact and longevity past the life of current funding sources.
